First in this tutorial, we review the goal of using ASHX files in ASP.NET framework. We use the ASHX file in a URL, and have it dynamically return content. We will use the query string. The final URLs will look like this. A file with the ASPX file extension is an Active Server Page Extended file that's designed for Microsoft's ASP.NET framework. They're also called.NET Web forms. Though they look fairly similar, ASPX files are not the same as the Web Handler files ASHX.
Did your computer fail to open an ASHX file? We explain what ASHX files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your ASHX files. What is an ASHX file?
The .ashx file extension is most commonly used by the ASP.NET HTTP handler that was created by Microsoft. Files that contain the .ashx extension are web pages that are processed by an ASP.NET handler.
When a visitor accesses this type of web page, the handler references another page that produces a specified code. The code is then sent to the visitor's Internet browser. The files that contain the .ashx file extension are very similar in nature to ASPX files.
ASHX files are a common way of implementing an http handler without the need for pre-compiling of the handler code within your files.

Hi.
ASHX files are files used with ASP.NET programming and can be opened with any program that codes in ASP.NET, such as Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft Visual Community.
As they are text files, you can also open ASHX files with a text editor program. Use this list of the best free text editors to see our favorites.
ASHX files are not intended to be viewed or opened by a web browser. If you downloaded an ASHX file and expected it to contain information (such as a document or other saved data), it is likely that something is wrong with the website and instead of generating usable information, you provided this file on the server side.
Note: Technically you can see the text of an ASHX file using some web browsers, but that does not mean that the file assumes it opens in that way. In other words, a real ASHX file, which contains readable text for ASP.NET applications, can be viewed in your browser, but not all .ASHX files are actually ASP.NET Web Handler files. There is more about this below.
The best trick with an ASHX file is simply to rename it to the type of file you expected. It seems that many are supposed to be PDF files, so, for example, if you download an ASHX file from your electric company or bank, simply rename it as a statement.pdf and open it. Applies the same logic to a music file, image file, etc.
When these problems occur, the website you are visiting that is running the ASHX file is having some kind of problem and this last step, where it is supposed to be the ASHX file to be renamed to whatever. Whatever is not happening. Therefore, renaming the file is only you doing the last step yourself.
If this happens a lot when you download PDF files specifically, there may be a problem with the PDF add-on that your browser is using. You should be able to fix it by changing the browser to use the Adobe PDF plug-in instead.
Note: It is important to understand that you can not change the name of any file to have a different extension and expect it to do so. work properly. For example, you can not change the name of a .PDF file to a .DOCX file and assume that it will open correctly in a word processor. A conversion tool is needed for real file conversions.
Let us know if these steps help you to resolve the issue.
